This Shed is Chic
A canyon outbuilding in Bay Ho becomes a captivating sanctuary
This space feels like the perfect blend of rustic and chic! It’s hard to believe this canyon oasis started out as a basic outdoor shed. My clients, originally from the Pacific Northwest and northern Idaho, love hiking, camping and anything to do with the outdoors, so I wanted to design a space that brought the outdoors in. The goal was to create a calm retreat for quiet time that can double as a guest room for out-of-town visitors.
The shed, as well as the surrounding canyon, is visible from other homes in the area, so it was important to select colors and finishes that would blend in with the canyon walls. I spent some time walking through the canyon to search for inspiration for the interior and decided on reclaimed weathered wood to bring light and texture to the 10-by-10-foot space. By applying it to all of the walls, it really became a neutral background for layering on style.
For both a feminine and masculine touch, we paired blush tones and nubby grays with rugged walls and modern accents. Nestled in nature, this home-away-from-home is now a cool, secluded, California-chic oasis.
