On Our Radar: Treci Smith’s Yellow Chicken Rain Boots
If you think our editorial team sometimes gets obsessed with things we see in our magazine... you're right
On Our Radar is a brand new digital feature we’re launching to share the new trends, styles or limited-run products and events that cross our desks, right when they cross our desks. Watch for this feature weekly in our editorial newsletter or find the archives online.
We all loved the cheery yellow chicken rain boots Treci Smith wore in the shoot for our profile, “Meet the Style Maven.” Paired with gauzy, neutral fabrics, they added a touch of whimsy to Treci’s bohemian outfit and had us scrambling to Google “chicken boots.”
Sure, we live in San Diego with its supposedly perfect climate, but it still rains here. And if there’s anything I’ve learned about San Diego rain, it’s these three general rules: (1) The rain boots aisle at Target will sell out at the first blush of rainy weather, so plan ahead; (2) Many of our sidewalks are not designed to handle rain so puddles are inevitable; and (3) We don’t get many rainy days so make sure your boots are amazing.
These sunny yellow boots are made by Sloggers, maker of sturdy farm- and rain-ready footwear. In 2015, the company ran a campaign on Facebook with their fans to create a new design for their boots, and the Chicken Collection was born. (If chickens aren’t your thing, there’s also a pair with baby goats.)
