The YMCA was honored to have Azim Khamisa and Ples Felix accepting the 2019 Human Dignity Award on behalf of the Tarique Khamisa Foundation during the 34th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Human Dignity Award breakfast. The foundation was born after 20-year-old Tariq was killed by 14-year-old gang member, Tony Hicks. Tariq’s father Azim reached out to Hick’s grandfather, Ples Felix, and together, in a spirit of healing to end youth violence, they began telling their story at school assemblies.
