Kick Your Fireside: The Hellcat
Recipe from Campfire in Carlsbad
Kick your fireside beverage options up a notch with this recipe. Bar manager Leigh Lacap of Campfire in Carlsbad suggests making the Hellcat, a riff on the classic Italian negroni.

TIP: Once opened, keep vermouth cold in the cooler. Treat vermouth like a good white wine and it will be good to you.
Hellcat | Makes 1
- Cinnamon sticks
- Oranges, peeled using a veggie peeler
- 1 OZ. mescal
- 1 OZ. Campari
- 1 OZ. sweet vermouth
- Ice
- Smoked salt
For each drink, throw a cinnamon stick in a pan over a fire until the stick becomes fragrant and begins to blacken, then toss in a wide orange peel cut with a veggie peeler.
Toss the burnt stick and orange peel in a cup. Add 1 oz. each mescal, Campari and sweet vermouth. Fill with ice and hit it with a pinch of salt.
