Designing an Inviting Kitchen

A kitchen can be functional but bland. You can add interest in the kitchen through the use of color. Here’s how.
Use different shades of the colors you’ve decided on for your kitchen.
Use complementary colors — those that are on the same side of the color wheel — if you want a classic, sophisticated, timeless appearance and effect.
Use analogous colors — those opposite each other on the color wheel — if you want to create an eye-catching kitchen with pizzazz.
Use cool colors next to warm colors and dark colors next to light colors for contrast.
You also can achieve contrast with finishes. More interest can be incorporated into the design by adding ceiling beams, distinctive cabinetry knobs or a skylight.
