Tips for the Right Finish
“There is no better time to incorporate color into your home than spring,” says Ace Hardware design expert Nathan Fischer, who shares his tips on home décor and paint color.
When using lighter paint colors, find accent pieces that pull in darker shades with wood, metal or stone.
For a clean, modern look go with neutral hues within one color family and then add small pops of color.
Blend patterns, solid colors and textiles in furniture pieces.
Start with a neutral solid or textured soda and then bring boldness to the room with upholstered accent chairs or ottomans.
Make drapes as tall as possible. This will add height to the room and keep from breaking up the space with an awkward line halfway up the wall.
A taller baseboard creates a finished, high-end look.
Even if it isn’t necessary, adding a table or floor lamp helps to fill a room and completes the look.
Make a statement with paint by using it to accent a feature in your living room, such as on the fireplace shown in the above photo.
