Smashing Pumpkin Cocktail
The Smashing Pumpkin is a holiday tradition at The US Grant, served in the Grant Grill and Lounge from October through December. Launched in 2009, the cocktail garnered national acclaim in 2010 after Troy Johnson selected it as his “what I’m thankful for” dish on a Thanksgiving-inspired episode of The Food Network’s Best Thing I Ever Ate.
Smashing Pumpkin Cocktail
Serves 1
Sanding sugar (mix 1/3 c. opal sanding sugar, and 1/4 t. each of cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger)
Orange slice
2 oz. pumpkin- and star-anise-infused 10-cane rum
1/2 oz. Grand Marnier
3/4 oz. St. Elizabeth allspice dram
3/4 oz. G.E. Massenez ginger liqueur
3/4 oz. saffron-infused sugar syrup
2-3 dashes of Scrappy’s cardamom bitters
1 oz. Meyer lemon juice, fresh pressed
Orange putka pod
Line the rim of a large martini glass with sanding sugar using the orange slice to moisten the rim. Vigorously shake the next seven ingredients and strain into glass. Float the putka pod as garnish.
