Monitor tomato plants for hungry striped horn worms and remove by hand or spray with Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt).

Keep flowering and fruiting plants producing by deadheading spent blooms and harvesting fruits and veggies regularly.

Frolic with youngsters at area fairy festivals on June 1 at Summers Past Farms in Flinn Springs and June 23 at San Diego Botanic Garden. Details are on each organization’s website.

Increase time and length of irrigation cycles as temperatures rise. 

Move potted succulents sensitive to searing summer sun into areas with dappled afternoon shade.
