Check Plant Containers

Check Plant Containers

Even easy-care containers benefit from some TLC this month. Check to see which plants need repotting because they’ve outgrown the container or need replacement soil. Be sure to use the appropriate potting-soil mix. At the same time, inspect drainage holes to be certain they aren’t clogged by roots and check plants for any signs of pests or disease. Scatter some slow-release fertilizer and then top with a layer of organic mulch or gravel, depending on the plant. If snails or slugs are a problem, discourage them by wrapping a band of copper around the container base.
