Attendees of San Diego Home/Garden Lifestyles Preview Party got a sneak peek of Carey Pratt and Steve Hopkins’ garden. The garden, with a back yard that overlooks the San Diego Yacht Club off the coast of Point Loma, was one of the winners in the 23rd Gardens of the Year contest and was featured in the September issue.
A private party hosted by co-chairs David and Patsy Marino had dual focus for Nordstrom: to toast the store’s relocation to Westfield UTC in La Jolla and to celebrate its partnership with Promises2Kids and Voices for Children. Both organizations will serve as the beneficiaries of a gala to be held October 10.
Sunset cocktails at Balboa Park’s Spreckels Organ Pavilion headed up the Patrons of the Prado’s 20th anniversary gala, Noche de Suenos. Helen Woodward Animal Center’s 29th Annual Spring Fling Gala transported guests to “A Night in Old Havana” to benefit the center’s programs for animals and people in need. The event was hosted by KUSI-TV’s Mark Mathis and KFM-BFM’s Shelly Dunn.
St. Germaine’s annual Grant Lunch at La Jolla Country Club honored the 12 agencies that received grants and Walden Family Services, the recipient of the Barbara Christensen Heart of San Diego Award.
The Atlantis Fashion Show & Luncheon, held at the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina, raised money for The Epilepsy Foundation of San Diego County’s many programs and honored Betty Beyster and her family for their charitable giving. Leonard Simpson’s Fashion Forward produced a couture fashion show for the event.

The Bloom Bash kick-off party officially opened the San Diego Museum of Art’s signature fundraiser, Art Alive. The celebration featured a custom art installation by HOTTEA, the critically acclaimed installation artist whose primary medium is yarn.
More than 1,000 guests enjoyed the Bentley Motors “Imagine” VIP Reception presented by Fraser as part of the La Jolla Concours d’Elegance event. The reception featured car-inspired craft cocktails, samplings from 15 restaurants and a gin and whisky tasting garden.
Honorees of this year’s Jewish Family Service gala included Edward Carnot and Louis Vener, Barbara and Mathew Loonin and the National Charity League’s San Dieguito Chapter. The event raised $1.1 million, including a $200,000 donation match by Honorary Chairs Ernest and Evelyn Rady.

Scripps Mercy Hospital raised more than $465,000 for cancer care at its 45th Annual Mercy Ball. Held at San Diego Marriott Marquis & Marina, the event drew a crowd of 500 supporters. Dinner, a live auction, live musical entertainment, and testimonials from cancer survivors and a caregiver marked the evening.
